Investigating the Effects of Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids (AAS) in Women

The use of AAS among women is rising, however very little is known about how these substances affect women specifically. Most research to date has focused on men leaving a critical gap in our understanding.

Commonly reported negative effects of AAS in women include irregular periods, acne, excessive body hair growth and hair loss. Some women also experience clitoral enlargement and deepening of the voice, these changes can be distressing and may not be fully reversible.

Given that women are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of AAS we are committed to advancing knowledge in this area.

We are currently running a confidential research study and would like to include women who are currently using steroids or have done so in the past.
